Can You Buy Full-Spectrum CBD Oil on Amazon?

If any sales platform serves as an international leader, it’s certainly Amazon. But you may be surprised to hear that CBD isn’t a part of this vast marketplace.

Amazon policy does not allow for the listing or sale of CBD products, including full-spectrum hemp oils. The company currently takes a strict stance against CBD in general and has vowed to never sell CBD products on its platform.

Just because you can’t purchase full-spectrum CBD oil or other products on Amazon doesn’t mean they aren’t still easy to access or afford. Instead, it means you may need to take some time to get to know the sellers you can trust and who sell products you’re interested in. Without the middleman of a platform like Amazon, it’s truly up to the consumer to find out product information, compare prices, and more.

What Is Amazon’s Policy on CBD?

Currently, Amazon takes a strict stance against selling CBD products. Official Amazon policy states that listings for products that contain CBD are prohibited, including full-spectrum or “rich” hemp oils and products that have been identified by LegitScript as containing CBD.

In other words, it’s not possible to sell or purchase products containing even small amounts of CBD on Amazon.

The only exception to this policy is the sale of certain CBD topicals, specifically those that comply with relevant laws and regulations.

These products are not sold through Amazon’s regular storefront; instead, they are sold and distributed through Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market.

What Is Sold on Amazon?

Though it may not be possible to purchase CBD-containing products on Amazon, it is possible to find products that are made using the cannabis plant in some way.

It’s also possible to purchase other natural healing solutions that can offer many of the same benefits of CBD.

If finding a hemp or cannabis product that helps manage chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, etc. is your goal, though, you’ll need to look elsewhere to find options that work for you.

Hemp Oil Products

It is possible to find hemp oil products on Amazon, so long as they do not contain any CBD or other cannabinoids (like THC).

Products made using hemp oil or hemp extract may also be accessible.

Difference Between Hemp Oil and CBD Oil

Hemp oil and CBD oil are similar in many ways, but the key difference between the two is simply the presence of CBD itself.

Though it’s possible for hemp oil to have very trace amounts of cannabinoids like THC, CBD oil comes from plants that have been specially bred and grown to produce higher-than-normal amounts of CBD.

That means the resulting oil and extracts that are created using the plant itself contain more CBD than they would otherwise.

So, even though CBD oil comes from hemp plants, they’re plants that have been designed to achieve this goal.

Regular hemp plants, on the other hand, or hemp plants that haven’t been genetically engineered to be rich in cannabinoids, can be turned into oils and extracts that have only a little (or no) CBD.

Hemp oil that’s marketed as such (rather than as CBD oil) is made from such plants. You can use these products as natural supplements, but they won’t deliver all of the benefits that are specific to CBD.

Does Hemp Oil Have CBD in It?

Hemp oil may have trace amounts of CBD and other cannabinoids in it due to the nature of the plants they come from, but unless they’re grown to be rich in CBD, these plants can’t produce an oil that has a significant amount of the cannabinoid.

All cannabis plants have some level of cannabinoids in them, and CBD is no exception.

Still, the amount of CBD found in a bud of hemp flower will be much different than the amount found in CBD hemp flower, which has been grown with the goal of maximizing CBD content in mind.

What Is the Purpose of Hemp Oil?

Hemp oil is most commonly utilized as a natural supplement to support mental and physical health. The benefits of hemp oil make it a great source of antioxidants and other naturally-occurring compounds that may help you feel your best.

Plus, hemp oil can still give you access to things like terpenes and flavonoids, which have a host of benefits of their own.

Hemp oil can help you take advantage of the natural healing powers of the cannabis plant without exposure to CBD or THC, so it certainly has a practical purpose beyond being a toned-down version of CBD oil.

Does Amazon Sell CBD Oil for Dogs?

Amazon does not sell CBD oil for dogs, just as they do not sell CBD oil for humans. Amazon’s ban on listing CBD products applies to those meant for pets.

CBD oil for dogs is, in most cases, virtually indistinguishable from CBD oil for humans, which means it’s not truly an exception to the rules Amazon has put into place.

When Will Amazon Allow CBD Products to be Sold?

For now, it seems that CBD products won’t be hitting the virtual shelves of your Amazon searches anytime soon. The company has clearly stated that they have no plans of ever allowing CBD (or any other cannabis product, for that matter) to be sold on their platform.

According to Amazon themselves:

“We don’t have plans at this time to allow the sale of CBD products on Amazon.com beyond Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market, whether through Amazon or our third-party sellers.”

Of course, it’s always possible for this sort of policy to change, particularly if CBD transitions to an FDA-approved supplement or medication. But it’s also possible that even if these changes occur, Amazon will always choose to stray away from CBD products.

The nature of the platform means it may be challenging to ensure that only safe, legitimate products are sold, and its international reach can pose issues for customers looking to purchase products that may not be allowed within their jurisdiction.

The Bottom Line

Even though Amazon has undoubtedly taken the world by storm and leads in purchases for nearly every industry, the company does not offer CBD products through their platform.

That means if you’re looking for CBD oil, you’ll have to look elsewhere, at least for the time being.

Change is always possible, and both social and legal obstacles that currently make it challenging to obtain CBD and other cannabis products may fade over time.

Nevertheless, a private company like Amazon may never have the incentive to navigate the complicated process that is selling CBD products.

Instead of holding out hope for platforms like Amazon to change their tune, it may be advantageous to familiarize yourself with pre-existing reliable and safe platforms for accessing and purchasing products.

Our directory is a great way to get to know some of the top-rated and most high-quality CBD products out there. Even if you decide not to make a purchase, you’ll have access to information about sellers and product types that may help guide you in the future.

I was born with Cystic Fibrosis, and although it is incurable, CBD and THC have been allowing me to live my life as a healthy adult now for years. For that reason, I’ve dedicated my career to spreading the good news about cannabinoids. Currently, I work for a cannabis distribution company called Humble & Fume which operates in California. Previously, I worked on two cannabis farms in northern California, one of which was located in the famous Humboldt County. I’ve also managed a medical cannabis delivery service in Marin County, California. I created CBD Facilitator to share what I’ve learned, and to recommend the best products that I have found in this chaotic market.
