How Much Is Full Spectrum CBD Oil on Average?

On average, full spectrum CBD is priced at $0.104 per milligram. According to the CBD Examine, the market prices range between $0.015 to $0.800. Understanding the basic retail price of a product per milligram is the best way to understand if you’re getting your money’s worth. Without that, it can be easy to feel taken advantage of by retailers who markup their products unnecessarily.

If you notice a CBD company at the higher end of that price range, ensure that they also offer the following perks:

  • Transparency about their growing process
  • Transparency of ingredients
  • Specialization in CBD
  • Knowledgeable about the legality and clear about the levels of THC or other cannabinoids included

So, how do you figure that out for yourself?

The Breakdown

There’s an easy way to find out if you’re getting enough bang for your buck. The method is this: divide the price of your CBD oil by the number of milligrams listed. For example, if your CBD oil is priced at $40 and contains 1200 mgs, you’re paying $0.033 per mg. That seems to sit well within the average range for full spectrum products.

There are even products listed for $0.800 per mg, that is far above the average price, and does not necessarily mean you’re getting a better product. You might see examples of this if you’re looking for low priced CBD. For example, a \$20 bottle of full spectrum CBD oil containing 25 mgs is probably not of good value.

So, the next question becomes: how do you know you’re getting a high quality product?

Let’s take a bottle of CBD oil that contains 2400 mgs, and assess the average price based on the quality of the product.

In many cases, companies that grow smaller batches of CBD do so with care, and quality assurance. These are the types of products you’ll likely find online, with companies who specialize in CBD products, because they’ll have more flexibility with ingredients, and tender methods for manufacturing. Companies like these will also likely be transparent with their growth methods, and be able to give you specific information about the plant from which the product came from, where it was grown, and when it was bottled. This type of information can be a helpful insight into the quality of the CBD. In this circumstance, a 2400 mg bottle of full spectrum CBD oil will probably be priced between $70-$130. That’s approximately $0.04 per mg. The items might be priced a bit higher than average, but you’ll know exactly why. For example, this CBD oil by FABCBD is $129 with 2400 mgs. That’s about $0.05 per mg – expensive, but still a good deal.

The average price of standard full spectrum CBD oil will probably be the closest to your overall average price of CBD. These types of products are manufactured with the same, standardized ingredients, and mass produced by grandfather companies that likely produce other, related items. For example, this CBD oil by Industrial Farms costs $25 with 2500 mgs. That’s $0.01 per mg. A better economic deal, probably because they sell their products in bulk.

On the lower end of the quality spectrum, you’ll find CBD oil products that are under regulated and sold particularly in places like gas stations. This is where you’ll see the example we previously mentioned: a $20 bottle of CBD oil containing 25 mgs, therefore priced at $0.80 per milligram. Therefore, the product seems cheaper, but the cost per milligram of CBD is dishonestly high, and you probably won’t reach the desired effects of the drug.

For the best value possible, pay close attention to the relationship between the product price, and how many milligrams it consists of.

Full Spectrum CBD Compared To The Market

Full spectrum CBD will almost always be more expensive than broad spectrum CBD, or CBD isolate. For example, the average cost of broad spectrum CBD per milligram is approximately $0.090, and the average cost of CBD isolate per milligram is $0.075, compared to $0.104 for full spectrum CBD per milligram.

Of course, what makes full spectrum CBD stand out is the THC component. Most CBD products will contain no THC, while full spectrum CBD contains (on average) 0.3% of THC. The presence of THC along with the range of cannabinoids in this particular type of product is what gives “full spectrum” its categorical name.

Factors To Consider When Purchasing

Price is important. Now that you have a good grasp on how your CBD oil should be priced, let’s talk about what else is important to consider when selecting a full spectrum CBD oil product.

  • Hemp origin: Where was the product grown? Is it farmed indoor or outdoor? Is the origin a temperature controlled climate? Can the manufacturer even tell you where it comes from?

  • Materials: What raw materials were used? Hemp flower is more expensive than biomass, because biomass is a combination of excess hemp materials, while hemp flower is straight to the source.

  • Strength: Many companies will sell each product with a variety of strength options: ex. Regular, extra strength, maximum strength, or max-plus strength

  • Quality of the ingredients: Each company has their own recipe that can include additional terpenes, flavonoids, and cannabinoids as well as premium ingredients like MCT coconut oil. Look for the ingredients listed and compare for quality assurance.

  • Third party testing: Most certified CBD manufacturers will bring in a third party company to do outside lab testing. That way, the CBD remains regulated, and you’re assured that the company is being held accountable for their products. If a product does not mention third party testing, it might be an unreliable source.

What To Avoid When Purchasing

If you really know what a low quality CBD oil looks like, there are certain indicators that make it easy to spot.

  • Medical claims: Many fake or low quality CBD oil products will advertise that they can solve ridiculous medical issues. While CBD is great for pain relief, relaxation, reducing inflammation, and sleep aid, it is not an alternative to seeking medical advice and/or assistance. For example, CBD will not protect you against COVID-19, as one store in Oregon promised, reported by The Hill.

  • Your source: Most people will not recommend you purchase your CBD oil from platforms like Amazon. While their interface makes it seem easy to find good quality products, you’re better off going straight to a CBD source. For that same reason, most professionals will not recommend purchasing full spectrum CBD from a random store, or unidentified online source. (Think Facebook marketplace – not the way to go).

  • Your own health: For the most part, CBD will not be a problem with other drug interactions. That said, you can never be too careful. (When taken with alcohol, excessive drowsiness can occur, for example). Otherwise, it’s important to consult your doctor before purchasing full spectrum CBD, just to ensure that CBD will mix well with any other medicines you might be taking.
